WE PUT CONCRETE INTO SHAPE –
AND KEEP IT THAT WAY
The Inline QC by HESS Group inspects every concrete block and paver directly on the line – in real time.
Using 3D vision and high-resolution color analytics, the system detects cracks, chipping, and color deviations at line Speed so the quality you design is the quality you ship. Unlike manual spot checks, Inline QC monitors the entire surface of each batch continuously. Results are evaluated instantly, displayed for Operators, and logged in the recipe management for later audits and process optimization—the outcome: fewer surprises, fewer complaints and more predictable production.
QUALITY AT LINE SPEED
Manual inspection struggles to keep pace with modern output. It is time-consuming, inconsistent between shifts and often too late to prevent rework. A single undetected deviation can spread across pallets and shipments, increasing waste and risking reputation.
The Inline QC moves inspection into the production line. The system performs contactless, automated checks and provides objective results with intuitive color indication. Operators see issues as they appear and can react before waste accumulates – turning quality control from a reactive task into a proactive control loop.
TECHNICAL HIGHLIGHTS
The Inline QC combines geometric measurement, color analysis and surface structure evaluation in one compact system. It integrates seamlessly into the HESS machine control, recipe management and production statistics. Under test conditions, the system achieved a detection accuracy of up to 99%*.
VISION STACK
Capturing over 2 million 3D points per scan and using 16,000 camera pixels for detailed evaluation.
HEIGHT RANGE
Supports product heights from 25 mm to 500 mm. Chamfers up to 150 mm are detected for products up to 300 mm in height.
PRECISION
Measures height differences with an accuracy of ± 0.5 mm. Detects lift-offs from 0.5 mm and cracks from 0.5 mm, with individual threshold adjustments available.
EFFORTLESS INTEGRATION
No separate recipe management required. All adjustments and parameters are automatically stored in the integrated HESS recipe management system of the concrete block machine.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Inline QC is able to detect defects and measure the heights of almost every known concrete product that can be produced with a concrete block and paver machine, as long as it falls within the height range of 25 mm to 500 mm.
It identifies cracks, lift-offs, spallings, broken edges, color deviations, and shape errors – each marked with a unique color overlay for fast visual feedback.
Surface contamination is detected but not classified as a defect. The AI model accurately distinguishes dirt or loose particles from real defects.
Through a dedicated interface on the HESS machine control panel, including automatic synchronization with the recipe management system. All measurement and defect data are stored for traceability and production analysis.
Yes. Inline QC provides all required wet-side inspection data, making it a perfect match for robotic sorting or packaging extensions.
The system captures color values across the full product layer and identifies deviations using average baselines.
A next-generation color-mix evaluation is in development to further improve precision.
A self-calibrating 3D scanning system measures both the product surface and the pallet reference, achieving high-accuracy height values even under production conditions.
Inline QC by HESS Group is an AI-powered vision system for defect detection, color analysis and height measurement in concrete block and paver production.
It combines 3D scanning, machine learning and recipe integration to ensure consistent quality — developed and manufactured in Germany by HESS Group, part of the TOPWERK Group.
