Handling systems for optimum manhole manufacturing

April 28, 2022

PRINZING PFEIFFER can provide customers with very high-quality pipe and manhole ring machines and supply appropriate handling systems for optimized manufacturing processes with base pallets and other products. Their product portfolio is rounded off by this vital segment of a comprehensive range of high-performance solutions that have been proven in practice. In addition to self-sufficient, stand-alone solutions, e.g., for removal of base pallets and cleaning and oiling them, handling systems can also be integrated into entire production lines.

The PRINZING PFEIFFER base pallet handling system can take over the complete handling process, thereby supporting the high-performance concrete manhole production line and optimizing quality requirements. In most cases, the base pallet handling system is connected directly to the production machine. The steel, sheet metal, or casted base pallets required for manufacturing pipe and manhole elements are thus prepared and made available for the production process.

Depending on requirements and unique design, the base pallet handling segment comprises six main areas: removal, separating, cleaning, oiling, stacking up, and finally feeding into the production machine. The individual steps are automated in most cases. Different stations are freely configurable and can be combined according to customer requirements.

The process begins, for example, by separating base pallets that have been removed from concrete manholes in advance and delivered in a stack. Before cleaning, base pallets are placed in a stack of up to 20 pieces in the stacking station. An adjustable stop or a centering station aids in attaining an exact depositing position with a ground conveyor vehicle.
After separation, the base pallet is fed via a chain conveyor into the cleaning station, encapsulated to prevent dust from escaping. The base pallet is fixed in position in the cleaning station after reaching the stop point detected by sensors. Several rotating steel brushes then clean the base pallet. Scrapers remove any concrete residue adhering to the inner and outer diameters simultaneously. Two large doors on both sides allow magnificent modification or cleaning work access.

After the cleaning process, the base pallet can travel to a position for mounting integrated sealing systems.

The base pallet oiling station is also completely enclosed so that no oil mist can escape into the hall area. The oiling station does not have to be modified to accommodate differing nominal diameters, thus saving time when changing dimensions.

The cleaned, oiled base pallet is now ready for the production process. A ratchet feeder pushes the base pallet into the center of the machine. This feeder can also eject freshly produced concrete products next to the machine for removal if required. Various configurations of the base pallet handling system allow it to be adapted to given space conditions and customer requirements.

State-of-the-art manhole manufacturing must be flexible, fast, safe, and cost-efficient. It is no longer possible to get by without comprehensive handling equipment if a company is to remain competitive in the value creation process, meet customer expectations and adapt its level to advanced standards. Reliability, robustness, low-maintenance solutions, and ease of operation are all demanded. In this respect, many concrete production facilities are aware of the need to modernize their production lines. PRINZING PFEIFFER can offer an appropriate all-inclusive package.
